Book Review: Athazagoraphobia

I am so happy I got to read this book. 

I can connect with some of the poems on a personal level, since my great grandmother had dementia before passing away. While I don’t remember much of her time before her final moments, I remember how Granny felt at times. Because of this, I couldn’t read the book again, like I do for most poetry books, but sometimes, that is a good thing. Good poets make their readers feel something. They make their readers cry with them or laugh or just stop and breathe.

Poetry should remind you of a time when you felt the same as the speaker or make you understand them on some level, and the Poetic Genius does just that in this book. 

The Poetic Genius does a great job of capturing the importance of memories within this book. Through recollections of the speaker’s past with their family, this book reminds us to find some way to hold on to the moments precious to us. It reminds us to be there for our family and to make each moment special somehow. 

We all need this book on our shelves, a constant reminder to hold our loved ones dear to us.
