Afaa Michael Weaver was one of my mentors during my MFA program. He encouraged me to study and pursue performance poetry and loved one of G Yamazawa's poem, just as I do. He got to travel to China on a Fulbright scholarship, and he's one of my inspirations for traveling and studying abroad.

Anyway, on to the book.

“City of Eternal Spring” is a book based on his time in Taipei. He writes of his experiences being an African American in an Asian country and how at home he feels.

This book shows that  sometimes, home is not where we're born or where our family is, but it is where we place ourselves.

The character in this book finds peace, love, and wisdom by traveling outside of his norm and traveling “12 time zones” away. It teaches readers to step out of their comfort zones and to at least try different cultures and mindsets.

Through at least getting a taste, you could discover something far better for yourself than in your current lifestyle.

Everyone needs to get a copy of this book!
