Being Silent

From being young, I learned not to say how I really feel. I learned to wear a mask and not let everyone that I was sad or upset. Only the people closest to me knew, but I still didn't tell them everything.

When you keep everything bottled up, life has a way of becoming heavy.

There were days I feared that I would throw up, and this was just from the stress of keeping my pain to myself, especially in college. Hiding emotions became a toxin that I was slowly dying from.

So, I used my poetry to start telling my story.

I didn't yell at anyone. I didn't throw punches or break things in my anger. I picked up a pencil, got a sheet of paper, and started writing down how I felt.

There are times when it's okay to be silent, yes. However, we also have to be able to express ourselves and tell someone when we're in pain or when something doesn't feel right. We have to be able to let someone know when something is wrong. If we bottle this all up, life is just going to find a way to get the truth out of us, and it'll be messy. But, it will also feel good.

So, I encourage you to find someone today who you can confide in. Who is someone you trust to tell your feelings to without any negative consequences or feedback? Who is someone you can be truly honest with?

Find someone to talk to or a healthy way to get the feelings out. I guarantee you will feel so much better afterwards.
